Hasta el gran éxito mundial del spaguetti western Por un puñado de dólares, de Sergio Leone, las películas que en los años sesenta escogieron Almería para sus rodajes fueron los westerns, y las grandes superproducciones.
En total han sido casi 500 películas las que fueron acogidas por nuestros paisajes para rodar muchas de sus escenas. Almería se transformó en un Hollywood europeo, con actores como Henry Fonda, Charlton Heston, Anthony Quinn, Orson Welles, Yul Brynner, Sean Connery, Burt Lancaster, Clint Eastwood, Claudia Cardinale, Sophia Loren, Raquel Welch, Brigitte Bardot, Harrison Ford, Sean Connery; y directores como David Lean, George Cukor, Sergio Leone, Richard Lester, Steven Spielberg...
Toda la historia del cine en Almería queda reflejada en La Casa del cine, un espacio museográfico, donde se rinde homenaje al mundo del cine, lugar donde John Lennon vivió durante el rodaje de la película Cómo gané la Guerra (1966).

Until the great worldwide success of the Spaghetti Western For a Fistful of Dollars by Sergio Leone, the films that chose Almería to film in the sixties were Westerns and Epic films.
In all, our landscapes have played host to the shooting of many of the scenes of nearly 500 films. The whole history of film in Almería is on show in the House of Film (La Casa del Cine), a museum which pays homage to the world of film and was the place where John Lennon lived while filming How I Won the War (1966).
