El Festival Internacional de Cine de Almería dedica este año su sección de videoarte a Marina
Abramović, figura esencial del arte contemporáneo y pionera del performance. Con motivo del 50º
aniversario de su trayectoria, este taller audiovisual, dirigido por el profesor y doctor en Comunicación
Audiovisual Federico Utrera, explorará la vida y obra videográfica de la artista a través de
una selección de piezas emblemáticas como Rhythm 0 o The Artist is Present, junto a otras
reinterpretadas por nuevas generaciones.
El taller analizará cómo Abramović ha convertido el videoarte en un espacio de
transformación donde el cuerpo, la resistencia y la espiritualidad se funden con la imagen en movimiento.
Esta edición culmina la exposición internacional iniciada en Londres y continuada en Ámsterdam,
Zúrich, Tel Aviv y Viena, cerrando su recorrido en FICAL Almería. Dirigido a estudiantes, artistas y
amantes del arte contemporáneo, el taller propone una experiencia inmersiva y participativa que celebra el
poder del videoarte como medio expresivo y emocional.
This year, the Almería International Film Festival dedicates its video
art section to Marina Abramović, a key figure of contemporary art and a pioneer of performance. On the
occasion of the 50th anniversary of her career, this audiovisual workshop -led by Professor and Doctor in
Audiovisual Communication Federico Utrera- will explore Abramović's life and videographic work
through emblematic pieces such as Rhythm 0 and The Artist is Present, along with reinterpretations by a new
generation of artists.
The sessions will examine how Abramović transformed video art into a
space of physical, emotional, and spiritual expression, merging endurance and image. This edition concludes the
international exhibition that began in London and continued through Amsterdam, Zurich, Tel Aviv, and Vienna, now
closing symbolically at FICAL Almería. Aimed at students, artists, and contemporary art enthusiasts, the
workshop offers an immersive and participatory experience that celebrates the transformative power of video
art.

FEDERICO UTRERA
Profesor de posgrado en Comunicación Audiovisual en Next Educación (Madrid) y autor de la
primera biografía sobre Bill Viola. Premio Extraordinario por su tesis sobre Mass Media Art, ha impartido
talleres y participado como jurado en festivales de cine y videoarte en España y el extranjero. Ha colaborado
con instituciones como el Instituto Cervantes de Nueva York, el Grand Palais de París o el Museo Guggenheim.
Postgraduate professor in Audiovisual Communication at Next Educación
(Madrid) and author of the first biography on Bill Viola. Recipient of the Extraordinary Doctorate Award for his
thesis on Mass Media Art, he has served as a lecturer and juror at film and video art festivals in Spain and
abroad, collaborating with institutions such as the Cervantes Institute in New York, the Grand Palais in Paris,
and the Guggenheim Museum.
