In Controverso, the debutant Nuria Vargas, winner of the Carmen Award for Best New Director, delves into the troubadores of The Alpujarra and the mark they left on the other side of the Atlantic.
The Film Library of Andalusia hall at the Francisco Villaespesa Library will also host screenings such as La importancia de llamarse Ernesto y la gilipollez de llamarse Eric, a musical proposal by César Martínez, and a special session of a documentary on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Calar Alto observatory.
But these are not the only documentaries to be seen at FICAL, as in sections such as FICAL SOCIAL there will be screenings such as La vida de Brianéitor.

La mañana del 20 de diciembre de 1973, un atentado de la organización terrorista ETA acabó con la vida del almirante Luis Carrero Blanco, en ese momento el presidente del Gobierno de España y uno de los colaboradores más cercanos del dictador Francisco Franco.
Matar al presidente indaga sobre todos estos hechos y sus posibles interpretaciones a lo largo de tres episodios. La serie cuenta con los testimonios de testigos cercanos, exmiembros del CESID (antigua agencia de inteligencia española), periodistas especializados, familiares, técnicos y expertos, además de contener material de archivo y recreaciones dramatizadas. Todo ello configura un mosaico de hechos y conjeturas que deja en manos del espectador la interpretación última de lo acontecido.
On the morning of 20 December 1973, an attack by the terrorist organisation ETA took the life of Admiral Luis Carrero Blanco, at that time the President of the Spanish Government and one of the closest collaborators of the dictator Francisco Franco.
Killing the President explores all these facts and their possible interpretations over the course of three episodes. The series includes the testimonies of close witnesses, former members of CESID (the former Spanish intelligence agency), specialised journalists, relatives, technicians, and experts, as well as archive material and dramatised recreations. All of this forms a mosaic of facts and conjectures that leaves the final interpretation of what happened in the hands of the viewer.

El 14 de julio de 2006, José Durá y nueve tripulantes más del pesquero Francisco y Catalina tomaron la decisión, amparada según ellos en la denominada ley del mar, de subir a un barco, preparado para 10 tripulantes, a casi 50 inmigrantes varados a diez millas de Malta, entre los que se encontraban una niña de dos años y una mujer embarazada. Durante nueve largos días, la embarcación quedó a la espera de la decisión de las autoridades europeas. Mientras las negociaciones entre la diplomacia de media Europa se sucedían, más de sesenta personas convivían en apenas cincuenta metros cuadrados.
On 14 July 2006, José Durá and nine other crew members of the fishing boat Francisco y Catalina took the decision, under the so-called law of the sea, to take almost 50 immigrants stranded ten miles from Malta, including a two-year-old girl and a pregnant woman, aboard a boat just big enough for 10 crew members. For nine long days, the boat awaited the decision of the European authorities. While negotiations among half of Europe's diplomats went on, more than sixty people lived together in barely fifty square metres.
