En Controverso, la debutante Nuria Vargas, ganadora del Premio Carmen a la mejor dirección novel, profundiza en la trova de La Alpujarra y su huella al otro lado del Atlántico.
La sala de la Filmoteca de Andalucía en la Biblioteca Francisco Villaespesa acogerá también proyecciones como La importancia de llamarse Ernesto y la gilipollez de llamarse Eric, propuesta musical de César Martínez, o una sesión especial de un documental con motivo del cincuentenario del observatorio Calar Alto.
Pero no son estos los únicos documentales que se verán en FICAL, ya que en secciones como FICAL SOCIAL tendremos proyecciones como La vida de Brianéitor.

The Film Library of Andalusia hall at the Francisco Villaespesa Library will also host screenings such as La importancia de llamarse Ernesto y la gilipollez de llamarse Eric, a musical proposal by César Martínez, and a special session of a documentary on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Calar Alto observatory.

"Controverso" es un viaje musical sobre la poesía improvisada con las mayores figuras de la improvisación de habla hispana, introducido por Luna, una joven interesada en la cultura hip hop. Una noche se encuentra al improvisador cubano Alexis Díaz Pimienta que le habla de los troveros de La Alpujarra y de los repentistas de Cuba. Luna decide investigar formas de improvisación que desconocía y emprende un viaje a conocer el trovo que la llevará hasta Cuba para conectar el rap y el freestyle con la tradición poética oral más antigua del mundo.
LUNA is a young rapper disenchanted with the music industry. One night he meets the Cuban writer and repentista Alexis Díaz Pimienta. This tells him about "repentismo" and the TROVEROS that still live in La Alpujarra. El observatorio astronómico más grande del continente europeo, Calar Alto, se encuentra ubicado en la sierra de los Filabres, a 40 kilómetros de la ciudad de Almería. Esta historia abarca desde su fundación en 1973 hasta el año 2012 y proporciona una visión general de las instalaciones, los telescopios y el equipo científico, al tiempo que permite una comprensión del funcionamiento interno de un observatorio astronómico.
El objetivo de este cortometraje es acercar la investigación científica a los ciudadanos, además de mostrar el espectacular cielo sin contaminación lumínica sobre la sierra de los Filabres, una posibilidad cada vez más escasa en la actualidad.
The largest astronomical observatory on the European continent, Calar Alto, is located in the Filabres Mountains, 40 kilometres from the city of Almería. This story spans from its foundation in 1973 to 2012 and provides an overview of the facilities, telescopes and scientific equipment, while giving an insight into the inner workings of an astronomical observatory.
The aim of this short film is to bring scientific research closer to the public, as well as to show the spectacular sky free of light pollution over the Filabres Mountains, an increasingly rare possibility nowadays.

Eric Jiménez es el batería de Los Planetas y Lagartija Nick, con quienes grabó junto a Enrique Morente el mítico disco Omega. Durante veinte años consecutivos ha recibido el premio al mejor batería alternativo español.
Su historia es la de un hombre que ha estado siempre en la cuerda floja, entre ganar y perder, entre la vida y la muerte, entre la música y la locura.

He was born in Granada, the only city in the world with the name of an explosive.
He was shot by his father when he was six years old. He doesn't even remember his name.
When he was ten, he joined the Spanish Phalanx movement because he wanted to play the drums. His greatest musical influences are Holy Week and his first slap, the one he was given at birth, perhaps the most artistic and least painful.
He got married at the age of sixteen. Shortly afterwards he started taking drugs as a way of escape. He should have died before he was thirty.
For forty years he has beaten the drums as life has beaten him, with all his strength.
Eric Jiménez is the drummer of Los Planetas and Lagartija Nick, with whom he recorded the legendary album Omega with Enrique Morente. For twenty consecutive years he has received the award for the best alternative Spanish drummer.
His story is that of a man who has always been on a tightrope, between winning and losing, between life and death, between music and madness.
