El ciclo Almería Tierra de Rodajes se centra este año en el aniversario de la filmación o estreno de tres películas muy diferentes.
En 1977 el veterano Don Sharp dejaba atrás sus aventuras de Fu-Manchu o sus incursiones en la Hammer para convertir los desiertos almerienses en Sudán en su revisión del clásico de aventuras Las cuatro plumas protagonizado por Beau Bridges, Robert Powell, Simon Ward y Jane Seymour.
Hace justo treinta años la desaparecida Pilar Miró escogió el Cortijo, donde hoy está el hotel, y La Isleta del Moro como escenario de una de sus mejores películas: El pájaro de la felicidad, coincidiendo de nuevo con Mercedes Sampietro, acompañada por José Sacristán y Aitana Sánchez Gijón.
Se cumple también ahora un cuarto de siglo de la filmación de Martin H de Adolfo Aristarain, auténtico manjar interpretativo de Federico Luppi, Juan Diego Botto y Cecilia Roth con rodaje en Mojácar.
Este año en FICAL volveremos a disfrutar de los escenarios almerienses que han convertido nuestra provincia en una tierra de cine
ALMERIA, LAND OF FILMING
The Almería, Tierra de Rodajes (Almeria, Land of Filming) cycle focuses this year on the anniversary of the filming or premiere of three very different films.
In 1977 the veteran Don Sharp left behind his Fu-Manchu adventures and his incursions in Hammer to turn the Almerian deserts into Sudan in his revision of the classic adventure film The Four Feathers starring Beau Bridges, Robert Powell, Simon Ward and Jane Seymour.
Just thirty years ago the late Pilar Miró chose the Cortijo, where the hotel is today, and La Isleta del Moro as the setting for one of her best films: El pájaro de la felicidad, (The Bird of Happiness) again coinciding with Mercedes Sampietro, accompanied by José Sacristán and Aitana Sánchez Gijón.
It is also now a quarter of a century since the filming of Adolfo Aristarain's Martin H, a real acting delicacy starring Federico Luppi, Juan Diego Botto and Cecilia Roth, which was shot in Mojácar.
This year at FICAL we will once again enjoy the landscapes of Almeria that have transformed our province into a land of film.

Martín Echenique (Federico Luppi) es un director de cine argentino que lleva más de veinte años viviendo en Madrid. Detesta su país y se niega a recrearse en la nostalgia. Su hijo, al que todos llaman Hache (Juan Diego Botto), tiene 19 años y vive en Buenos Aires con su madre. Ni estudia ni trabaja; callejea y toca su guitarra eléctrica. Después de cinco años sin verse, vuelven a encontrarse en Buenos Aires cuando Hache sufre una sobredosis. La exmujer de Martín propone que el chico viva con su padre. En Madrid les esperan dos personas: Alicia (Cecilia Roth), la amante de Martín, una mujer más joven que él y harta de estar con un hombre que es incapaz de asumir ningún compromiso; y Dante (Eusebio Poncela), un actor que es el mejor y casi único amigo de Martín, y cuyo mayor placer es vivir en la cuerda floja. Martín comparte su vida con gente apasionada, pero él no se permite el lujo de sentir. El que ama está expuesto al dolor, y eso le da pánico.
Martín Echenique (Federico Luppi) is an Argentinian film director who has been living in Madrid for more than twenty years. He hates his country and refuses to wallow in nostalgia. His son, whom everyone calls Hache (Juan Diego Botto), is 19 years old and lives in Buenos Aires with his mother. He neither studies nor works; he wanders the streets and plays his electric guitar. After five years without seeing each other, they meet again in Buenos Aires when Hache suffers an overdose. Martín's ex-wife proposes that the boy lives with his father. Two people are waiting for them in Madrid: Alicia (Cecilia Roth), Martín's lover, a woman younger than him and fed up with being with a man who is incapable of making any commitments; and Dante (Eusebio Poncela), an actor who is Martín's best and almost only friend, and whose greatest pleasure is living on a tightrope. Martín shares his life with passionate people, but he does not allow himself the luxury of feeling. He who loves is exposed to pain, and that makes him panic.

Harry Feversham es un joven teniente educado por un severo padre que ha determinado que siga la tradición militar de la familia. Harry, que siente una fuerte aversión hacia la vida militar, presenta su renuncia. Sin embargo, el día antes de quitarse el uniforme para siempre, y cuando Harry y su novia Ethne celebran su fiesta de compromiso, se recibe un telegrama que ordena a su regimiento su incorporación al Sudán. Harry, temiendo que este hecho le impida abandonar el ejército, quema telegrama, lo que al conocerse determina que sea tachado de cobarde y reciba de sus tres compañeros y su novia una pluma blanca como símbolo de cobardía. Despreciado por sus amigos, desdeñado por su novia y repudiado por su padre, Harry decide marchar en secreto a Sudán y, con la ayuda del nativo Abou Fatma comienza a realizar acciones heroicas, que le permiten borrar para siempre su imagen cobarde.
Harry Feversham is a young lieutenant brought up by a stern father who has determined that he will follow the family's military tradition. Harry, who has a strong aversion to military life, resigns. However, the day before he is due to take off his uniform for good, and as Harry and his fiancée Ethne celebrate their engagement party, a telegram is received ordering his regiment to join the Sudan. Harry, fearing that this will prevent him from leaving the army, burns the telegram, which, when it becomes known, results in him being branded a coward and receiving a white feather from his three comrades and his fiancée as a symbol of cowardice. Scorned by his friends, spurned by his girlfriend and disowned by his father, Harry decides to go secretly to Sudan and, with the help of the native Abou Fatma, begins to perform heroic deeds that allow him to erase his cowardly image forever.
