Cada año el Concurso Maratón 48x3 es una de las actividades más celebradas en FICAL. El año pasado se dio un importante giro al concurso con la presencia como docente de uno de los grandes directores de este país, el realizador Pablo Berger (Blancanieves, Abracadabra) que de nuevo en esta ocasión ha trabajado los guiones junto con los equipos. Prueba de los excelentes resultados que dio este cambio es el hecho de tener este año a competición en nuestro Certamen Internacional de Cortometrajes una de las obras del maratón de 2021.
De nuevo se ha buscado crear un mayor clima de equipo entre los equipos participantes, para lo cual Berger trabajó con los concursantes en grupo, leyendo y ayudando a construir los guiones de los demás para generar sinergias que ayuden a mejorar el proyecto.
Este año se ha pretendido conmemorar el bicentenario de la provincia de Almería, en el sorteo de los temas al escoger elementos que nos recuerden a esta maravillosa tierra. El azar quiso que el tema de los 4 cortometrajes que se han rodado este año sea la luz de Almería. El resultado se podrá disfrutar en una proyección durante FICAL y conoceremos a los ganadores en la VI Gala del Audiovisual Almeriense.
48X3 MARATHON COMPETITION
Every year the 48x3 Marathon Competition is one of the most outstanding activities at FICAL. Last year the presence as a teacher of one of the great directors of this country, the filmmaker Pablo Berger (Blancanieves, Abracadabra) gave the competition a significant twist. Once again on this occasion he has worked on the scripts together with the teams. Proof of the excellent results of this shift is the fact that this year we have one of the works of the 2021 marathon taking part in our International Short Film Competition.
Once again, the aim was to create a greater team atmosphere among the participants, for which Berger worked with the contestants in groups, reading and helping to build the others’ scripts to generate the synergies that help to improve a project.
The theme of this year's draw was intended to commemorate the bicentenary of the province of Almería, choosing features that remind us of this wonderful land. As chance would have it, the theme of the four short films that have been shot this year is the light of Almería. The result can be enjoyed at a screening at FICAL, and the winners will be announced at the VI Gala del Audiovisual Almeriense (4th Almerian Audiovisual Gala).

Comienza su carrera como director con el multipremiado cortometraje de culto Mamá. Gracias a los numerosos premios que consiguió, obtiene una beca para estudiar un Master en la New York University, donde posteriormente sería docente. Ha dirigido cursos en las universidades de Cambridge, Princeton, Yale, Sorbonne y La Fémis -Escuela Nacional de Cine de Francia.
Su opera prima, Torremolinos 73, fue la película revelación del 2003, consiguiendo cuatro nominaciones a los Premios Goya (incluyendo Mejor guion original y mejor director novel).
Blancanieves se presentó en el Festival de San Sebastián dónde obtuvo el Premio Especial del Jurado y fue la gran ganadora de los Premios Goya 2013, al conseguir 10 estatuillas incluyendo la de Mejor Película y Guion Original.
La trayectoria internacional de esta película ha sido también muy exitosa obteniendo el Premio Ariel a la Mejor Película, siendo además nominada en los Premios Cesar y en los Premios del Cine Europeo, en la categoría de Mejor Película y director.
En 2015, Pablo Berger es nombrado Caballero de las Artes y las letras por el gobierno francés.
Su último film Abracadabra, le proporcionó otra nueva nominación al Goya al Mejor Guión Original y la cinta tuvo otras 7 nominaciones en estos premios.

He began his career as a director with the multi-award winning cult short film Mamá. Thanks to the numerous awards he won, he obtained a scholarship to study for a Master's degree at New York University, where he would later become a teacher. He has directed courses at the universities of Cambridge, Princeton, Yale, Sorbonne and La Fémis - France's National Film School.
His debut film, Torremolinos 73, was the revelation film of 2003, receiving four nominations for the Goya Awards (including Best Original Screenplay and Best New Director).
Blancanieves was presented at the San Sebastian Festival where it won the Special Jury Prize and was the big winner of the 2013 Goya Awards, winning 10 statuettes including Best Film and Original Screenplay.
The international career of this film has also been very successful, winning the Ariel Award for Best Film, being also nominated for the Cesar Awards and the European Film Awards, in the category of Best Film and Director.In 2015, Pablo Berger was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.
His latest film, Abracadabra, brought him another Goya nomination for Best Original Screenplay and the film received another 7 nominations at these awards.
